Blotter: FW Police Arrest E. Brunswick Man for DWI, Drug Charges

Police activity in the borough March 21-28.

The arrested Andrew Kilkenny, 26, of East Brunswick, on Sunday, March 27, for driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

At 10:16 a.m., officers stopped Kilkenny at Midway Avenue and Glenwood Road for a motor vehicle violation and, while speaking with him, detected a strong odor of alcohol. They administered several field sobriety tests, which Kilkenny failed, and subsequently arrested and transported him to police headquarters. During processing, the officers found a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia on his person.

After he was processed, he was released to a responsible party.

Tuesday, March 22:

  • Police arrested Canaster Butler, 50, of Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Garwood court. At 9:42 a.m., officers stopped Butler at South Avenue and Terrill Road for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released pending a court date.
  • Police arrested Terry Stevens, 35, of North Plainfield, for outstanding warrants issued by the Scotch Plains and Newark courts. At 5:38 p.m., officers stopped Stephens in the 40-block of South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrants. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thursday, March 24:

  • A resident of Pleasant Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. The victim reported that between March 10 and March 24, he received a call from an unknown suspect, who stated that the victim was eligible to receive a government grant of $7,000. The caller asked for the victim's bank account, but the victim refused to provide it. One week later, the suspect called back and said that the money was ready to be delivered, but that the victim needed to pay a bank fee of $245 to receive it. The victim sent the money through Western Union. The suspect then called again and stated that he had received the money, but in order for the money to be delivered, the victim needed to pay taxes of $445. The victim again sent money through Western Union.

    The victim subsequently called the suspect back several times, who said that he would return the victim's call with additional information. 

    This incident remains under investigation. 

Friday, March 25:

  • Police arrested Renee Mendoza, 50, of Elizabeth, of an outstanding warrant issued by the Paterson court. At 9:50 a.m., officers stopped Mendoza at South Avenue and Terrill Road for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Saturday, March 26:

  • Police arrested Sara Carrion, 39, of Middlesex, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Middlesex court. At 4:46 p.m., officers stopped Carrion in the 30-block of South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Sunday, March 27:

  • A resident of Glenwood Road reported being a victim of criminal mischief. At about 6 a.m., he told police that he had discovered that an unknown person or persons had spray-painted his garbage cans.
