Blotter: FW Resident Charged with Criminal Trespass

Police activity in the borough April 26 through May 9.

A resident in the 20-block of Oakwood Court in Fanwood stumbled upon an uninvited guest May 6, the reported on its website. At 2:14 p.m., the resident was home when he heard a noise coming from downstairs, police said. When he went to investigate, he discovered Fanwood resident Harry Leavitt, 22, standing in his living room. 

Leavitt stated that he was looking from his son, police said, then fled through the front door of the house. The resident, meanwhile, called 911 and identified Leavitt to police. Officers arrested Leavitt shortly thereafter and charged him with criminal trespass.

Tuesday, April 26:

  • Police arrested Richard Fussell, 24, of Cranford, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Fanwood court. At 9:08 a.m., officer stopped Fussell at South Avenue and Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Jaawell Faggins, 23, of Westfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Newark court. At 3:37 p.m., officers performed a random license-plate check on a vehicle traveling on North Avenue near Hetfield Avenue and discovered a warrant for the car's registered owner. The officers stopped the vehicle to confirm that the driver was the owner, then placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thursday, April 28:

  • Police arrested Daniel Johnson, 23, of Scotch Plains, for outstanding warrants issued by the Scotch Plains and Mahwah courts. At 11:41 p.m., officers performed a random license-plate check on a vehicle traveling on Shasta Pass and discovered the warrants. The officers stopped the vehicle to confirm that the driver was the owner, then placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and turned over to the Scotch Plains Police Department.

Saturday, April 30:

  • Police arrested Venecia Cain, 22, of Middlesex, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Irvington court. At 8:27 a.m., officers stopped Cain in the 300-block of South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • A resident in the 100-block of Helen Street reported being a victim of criminal mischief. She stated that between 12 a.m. April 29 and 11:30 a.m. April 30, an unknown suspect or suspects damaged the driver-side mirror of her car. 

Tuesday, May 3:

  • A resident in the 10-block of Glenwood Road reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that a suspect or suspects had drawn graffiti on a children's playhouse in his backyard.
  • Police arrested Adam Keogh, 29, of North Plainfield, for possession of marijuana. At 2:49 p.m., officers stopped Keogh in the 200-block of Midway Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and, upon speaking with him, smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers asked Keogh to step from the car, and upon obtaining consent to search his vehicle, recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released with a court summons. 

Sunday, May 8:

  • Police arrested Hassana Sessoms, 35, of Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the New Providence court. At 12:02 a.m., officers performed a random license-plate check on Sessoms' vehicle, traveling near South Avenue and Shady Lane, and discovered the warrants. Upon confirming that Sessom was driving the vehicle, they placed her under arrest and transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Monday, May 9:

  • A resident in the 70-block of Tillotson Road reported being a victim of attempted burglary. She stated that between 11 and 11:30 a.m., an unknown suspect or suspects attempted to remove the front-door window. No entry was gained to the house.
