Blotter: Marijuana Arrest Tops SP Police Reports

The following arrest information was supplied by the Scotch Plains Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police arrested Brian Laspe, 19, of Katherine Street in Scotch Plains, for possession of marijuana, according to a press release distributed by the . On Friday, Aug. 26, officers stopped Laspe for a motor vehicle violation on Mountain Avenue and discovered that Laspe was carrying a quantity of the drug. They placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thefts

  • A resident of Country Club Lane reported Monday, Aug. 22, that his ex-girlfriend took his cellphone when they broke up. The phone is valued at about $449.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 25, a resident of Glenside Avenue told police that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects removed a license plate from his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway.
  • Also on Aug. 25, the owner of several vending machines on Tussell Lane reported that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects broke into the machines and stole an undetermined amount of cash.

Receiving Stolen Property

  • Police arrested Sawab Shabazz, 23, of Irvington, for receiving stolen property. On Friday, Aug. 26, officers stopped Shabazz for a motor vehicle violation on Westfield Road and discovered that the license plates on his vehicle were stolen. They placed Shabazz under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

DWI

  • Police arrested Garfield Walters, 45, of Plainfield, for driving while intoxicated. On Saturday, Aug. 27, officers stopped Walters for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and, upon speaking with him, allegedly smelled the odor of alcohol. After administering several field sobriety tests, which Walters failed, the officers placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Harassment

  • A Park Avenue resident told police Aug. 25 that a friend has been posting negative comments about her on Facebook. 
  • On Saturday, Aug. 27, a resident of Gary Court reported that during the night, he receives calls from an unknown suspect who yells obscenities at him.
