Blotter: Marijuana Arrests Top SPPD Reports

The following arrest information was supplied by the Scotch Plains Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The arrested two men for marijuana possession Aug. 31 and Sept. 3, according to a press release distributed by the department. 

On Aug. 31, officers stopped Justin Batista, 20, of Bloomsbury, for a motor vehicle violation on Hetfield Avenue and, while speaking with him, discovered that he had with him a quantity of the substance.

On Sept. 3, officers stopped Matthew Mascucci, 21, of New Providence, for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and, while talking with him, found marijuana in his possession.

Batista and Mascucci were each transported to police headquarters, where they were processed and released.

Thefts

  • A resident of Lake Avenue reported on Wednesday, Aug. 30, that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects stole his bicycle from the side of his house. The bike was valued at about $150.
  • On Sunday, Sept. 3, a resident of WIllow Avenue told police that an unknown suspect or suspects swiped his bicycle from his front yard. The bike was valued at about $330.

Criminal Mischief

  • A business owner on East Second Street reported on Friday, Sept. 1, that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects spray-painted the side of his building.
  • On Monday, Sept. 4, a resident of Wellington Downs told police that an unknown suspect or suspects broke a decorative light at the end of his driveway.

Fraud

  • A resident of Raritan Road reported on Friday, Sept. 1, that an unknown suspect or suspects made about $1,000 in purchases with his credit card without his authorization.
