Blotter: Motorcycle Theft, Two Car Burglaries, Four Arrests Top SP Police Reports

Police activity in the township from Nov. 22-28.

A resident of Cleveland Avenue in Scotch Plains reported being a victim of theft Sunday, Nov. 28. According to the , the resident reported that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects removed a dirt-bike motorcycle, which was left in his backyard. The bike was valued at about $500. Police are investigating.

Monday, Nov. 22:

  • A resident of Hunter Avenue reported being a victim of burglary. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed a GPS unit, which was valued at about $129. Entrance was gained through an unlocked door.
  • A resident of Seneca Road reported being a victim of criminal mischief. She stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects damaged a thermometer that was hanging in her yard.

Wednesday, Nov. 24:

  • A resident of Forepaugh Avenue reported being a victim of burglary. She stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects entered her vehicle, which was parked in her driveway. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed coins. Entrance was gained through an unlocked door.
  • A resident of Longfellow Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects threw several eggs at his vehicle, which was parked in front of his house. The eggs caused several scratches.
  • A resident of Sims Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. She stated that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects threw a rock at her house, striking the front living room window and causing damage.

Thursday, Nov. 25:

  • The manager of a Route 22 store reported that an unknown suspect or suspects used a counterfeit $20 bill to make a purchase.
  • Graffiti was found spray-painted on the stop sign at North Avenue and Promenade Avenue.
  • Police arrested Kelly Leahy, 19, of Westfield, for obstruction of justice. While on routine patrol in the early-morning hours, an officer observed Leahy walking behind a vehicle at a Plainfield Avenue business. When the officer went to approach her, she ran away from him. After a brief pursuit, she was placed under arrest. There were no signs of criminal activity where she was walking. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Friday, Nov. 26:

  • Police arrested Demell Edwards, 22, of Hillside, for a $250 outstanding warrant issued by the New Brunswick Plains court. Officers stopped Edwards for a motor vehicle violation on Mountain Avenue and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, Nov. 27:

  • Police arrested Chante O'Neal, 20, of Plainfield, for a $259 outstanding warrant issued by the South Plainfield court. Officers stopped O'Neal for a motor vehicle violation on Cushing Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, Nov. 28:

  • Police arrested Kevin Harris, 31, of Plainfield, for a $1,500 outstanding warrant issued by the Piscataway court. Officers stopped Harris for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
