Blotter: Rash of Car Burglaries in Fanwood

A suspect or suspects rifle through five unlocked vehicles in 12-hour span.

Fanwood police are investigating a string of car burglaries in the area of Farley Avenue and Paterson Road. Between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 17, and 8 a.m. Aug. 18, an unknown suspect or suspects entered five cars, all of which were unlocked and parked in the street or the owners' driveways, Fanwood Detective Eugene Chin said in a telephone interview. Some cars were simply rifled through, but the suspect or suspects did steal a GPS unit and the loose change that they found. No damage was reported, Chin said.

Police are investigating. But residents are reminded to lock their vehicles, even when the vehicles are parked in driveways.
