Blotter: Scotch Plains Police Arrest Four in One Day

Police activity in the township Feb. 7-13.

The racked-up four arrests last Saturday, Feb. 12. They were all on outstanding warrants – two issued by the Plainfield court, one by the Newark court and the fourth by the Kearny court. Read on for the details, and for the rest of the week's police reports.

Monday, Feb. 7:

  • A resident of Hetfield Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects tried to use her credit card at a gas station in Ohio.

  • A resident of Rahway Road reported that when he went into his mailbox to retrieve his mail, he noticed that several envelopes were open. Nothing was found taken from any of the envelopes.

Thursday, Feb. 10:

  • A resident of Country Club Lane reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that an unknown suspect or suspects called her, stated that they were from a government agency and that they needed her social security number to verify her address. The resident stated that she did not give the callers the number.

  • A resident of Grand Street reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that a former friend calls her constantly and hangs up.  

Saturday, Feb. 12:

  • Police arrested Carnell Graham, 37, of Plainfield, for a $1,000 outstanding warrant issued by the Plainfield court. Officers stopped Graham for a motor vehicle violation on North Avenue and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Mark Monroe Jr., 23, of Plainfield, for a $400 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Officers stopped Monroe for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Hamkin Coleman, 33, of Newark, for a $500 outstanding warrant issued by the Newark court. Officers stopped Coleman for a motor vehicle violation on South Avenue and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Marc Purnell, 38, of Edison, for a $300 outstanding warrant issued by the Kearny court. Officers stopped Purnell for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, Feb. 13:

  • A resident of Stout Avenue reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that she has received numerous phone calls from a former friend. She reported that the calls occur at all hours of the day and night. 
  • Police arrested Kaloko Traore, 30, of Newark, for a $350 outstanding warrant issued by the Rutherford court. Officers stopped Traore for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
