Blotter: Scotch Plains Police Arrest Resident for Warrant

Police activity in the township Feb. 14-20.

The arrested  resident Robert Miller, 48, of Ternay Ave on Friday. Miller was arrested for a $300 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court.  Officer Luciano stopped Miller for motor vehicle violation on Park Ave. and discovered the warrant.  He was transported to Headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Monday, February 14th:

  • The Manager of a Country Club reported being a victim of a theft.  He stated that sometime over the past two weeks an unknown suspect(s) removed five televisions from the property.  The televisions were valued at approximately $10,000.
  • A resident of Willow Ave. reported being a victim of fraud.  She stated that unknown suspect(s) used her social security number to open a credit card at a local bank. 

Tuesday, February 15th:

  • A resident of Front St. reported being a victim of criminal mischief.  He stated that sometime overnight an unknown suspect(s) damaged his vehicle by scratching the door and trunk area.  The vehicle was parked in the street.

Wednesday, February 16th:

  • A resident of Mountain Ave. reported being a victim of fraud.  He stated that unknown suspect(s) filed their income tax return using his information.
  • A resident of Front St. reported being victim of fraud.  She stated that unknown suspect(s) took approximately $1,000 from her bank account without her authorization.   
  • A resident of Rhoda Pl. reported being a victim of a leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.  He stated he parked his vehicle legally on Park at night and when he returned he noticed that unknown suspect(s) had struck it and then left the scene.  

Saturday, February 19th:

  •  Police arrested Jamaal Thorpe, 31, of Piscataway, for a $413 outstanding warrant issued by the South Plainfield court.  Officiers stopped Thorpe for a motor vehicle violation on Mountain Ave. and discovered the warrant.  He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released. 
  • Police arrested Paul Francois, 31, of Elizabeth, for driving while intoxicated.  Officiers responded to a report of a driver sleeping in his vehicle at a red light at the intersection of Terrill Rd. and Front St. Upon speaking with the driver he smelled a strong odor of alcohol.  After failing several field sobriety tests Francois was placed under arrest.  He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, February 20th:

  • A resident of Swans Mill Ln. reported being a victim of Fraud.  He stated that unknown suspect(s) tried to open a credit card with his personal information. 
  • Police arrested Peter Tevis, 45 ,of Scotch Plains, for a no bail warrant issued by the Bergen County court.  Officiers stopped Tevis for a motor vehicle violation on East Second and discovered the warrant.  He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released to Bergen County.
