Blotter: Snow Stops Maryland Man Who Attempted to Flee Accident in Fanwood

Police activity in the borough Feb. 12-14,

Snow foiled the escape of Maryland resident who allegedly attempted to flee the scene of a motor vehicle collision last Sunday night, Feb. 13, according to a press release distributed by the . 

At 9:50 p.m., officers responded to the area of Portland Avenue and Birch Street for the reported collision. There, they observed Keith Young, 44, of Glen Burnie, drive into a parked car and become stuck in a snow bank, according to the press release. Young then reportedly attempted to run away on foot, but slipped and fell. 

As the officers were rendering first aid, they smelled the odor of alcohol on Young's breath, the press release stated. Young was transported to the hospital for injuries he sustained in the fall, and his blood was drawn to be tested for drugs and alcohol. Police charged Young with careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.

Saturday, Feb. 12:

  • Police arrested Clifford Lewis, 49, of Edison, for outstanding warrants issued by the Newark court. At 9:58 a.m., Lewis walked into the police department's headquarters for an outstanding warrant issued by the Fanwood Municipal Court, and when the officers there checked Lewis' record, they discovered the other warrants. Lewis was arrested and processed, and subsequently released after posting bail. 

Sunday, Feb. 13:

  • Police arrested Nikita Hudson, 23, of Newark, for outstanding warrants issued by the Bloomfield and Caldwell courts. At 11:07 a.m., officers stopped Hudson at South Avenue and Laurel Place for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrants. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released. 
  • Police arrested Ramon Brooks, 37, of Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Newark court. At 2:21 p.m., officers stopped Brooks at Terrill Road and East Third Street for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • At 4:05 p.m., police received a report of a motor vehicle missing from the south-side parking lot of the Fanwood Train Station. The vehicle, which police believe was stolen sometime between 8:30 a.m. and the time of the report, is described as a white, four-door 1995 Acura Integra. The value of the vehicle is about $2,000. Police entered the report as a "stolen vehicle" into a national database. 

Monday, Feb. 14:

  • Police arrested David Quinones, 28, of North Plainfield, for driving while intoxicated. At 2:41 a.m., officers stopped Quinones at North Avenue and Longfellow Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and, while speaking with him, detected a strong odor of alcohol. The officers administered a field-sobriety test, which Quinones failed. They placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released to a responsible party.
