Blotter: SP Police Investigate Car Theft

The following arrest information was supplied by the Scotch Plains Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A resident of Arrowwood Road in Scotch Plains reported that his car was stolen Monday, May 30, according to a press release distributed by the . The vehicle is believed to have been taken overnight. The vehicle's keys, which the resident said he left near the car, were also missing.

Resident Reports Attempted Burglary

A resident of Canterbury Drive reported being a victim of an attempted burglary on Monday, May 23. He stated that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects tried to enter his residence through a basement window. One of the window panes was broken. 

Residents Report Vehicle Burglary

A resident of Stocker Lane reported being a victim of burglary on Thursday, May 26. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his vehicle and removed a GPS, which was valued at about $200. The vehicle was unlocked and parked in front of the resident's driveway. 

Four days later, a resident of Arrowwood Road reported that an unknown suspect or suspects stole an iPod from his car, which was unlocked and parked in his driveway.

Police remind all residents to lock their vehicles when left unattended.

Reported Theft at Fitness Center

A patron at a fitness center on Lamberts Mill Road reported being a victim of theft on Wednesday, May 25. He stated that while he was exercising, an unknown suspect or suspects removed his iPod from his backpack. The iPod was valued at about $200.

Online Harassment

A resident of Martine Avenue reported being a victim of harassment on Thursday, May 26. She stated that a friend has been posting negative comments about her on Facebook.

Residents Report Fraud

A resident of Beverly Avenue reported being a victim of fraud on Thursday, May 26. She stated that an unknown suspect or suspects used her Social Security number to file a separate tax return in her name.

The following day, a resident of Portland Avenue reported that an unknown suspect or suspects took about $3,000 from her checking account without her authorization.

Warrant Arrests

Police arrested Peter Mofokeng, 21, of Plainfield, on May 24 for a $422 outstanding warrant issued by the Fanwood court. Officers stopped Mofokeng for a motor vehicle violation on Front Street and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Police also arrested Mandel Sly, 22, of Willow Avenue in Scotch Plains, on May 26 for a $500 outstanding warrant issued by the Old Bridge court. Officers stopped Sly for a motor vehicle violation on Union Avenue and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

That same day, officers arrested Brandon Morales, 18, of Old Bridge, for a $200 outstanding warrant issued by the Old Bridge court. Officers stopped Morales for a motor vehicle violation on North Avenue and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

On May 30, police arrested Rashard Jennings, 24, of Jersey City, for a $450 outstanding warrant issued by the North Bergen court. Officers stopped Jennings for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

On the same day, officers arrested Warren Thomas, 46, of Newark, for a $250 outstanding warrant issued by the Newark court. Officers stopped Thomas for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
