Blotter: SP Police Make Marijuana Possession, Obstruction of Justice Arrests

Police activity Dec. 6-11.

The arrested Elijah Ivey, 23, of Hillside, for obstruction of justice Dec. 10. After being stopped by officers for a motor vehicle violation, Ivey provided the officers with a false name, the department reported. They placed him under arrest and transported him to headquarters, where he was processed and released after posting bail.

The following day, police arrested Daniel Furnari, 23, of Concord Road in Scotch Plains, for possession of marijuana. While on routine patrol during the early morning hours, the department reported, Detective Jason Everitt observed Furnari park his vehicle on Prospect Avenue then move to the back seat. When Everitt approached the vehicle, he detected the strong odor of burning marijuana. He placed Furnari under arrest and transported him to headquarters, where he was processed and released after posting bail.

Monday, Dec. 6:

  • A resident of Tisbury Village reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that an unknown suspect called her, stated that he worked at her bank and asked for her personal information. The victim said she became suspicious and hung-up the phone, then contacted the police.
  • A resident of Front Street reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects removed his bicycle, which was left unlocked on the side of his house. The bike was valued at about $190.
  • A resident of Cooper Road reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that she has received about 25 text messages from an acquaintance she met at a party.

Tuesday, Dec. 7:

  • A resident of Radley Road reported being a victim of fraud. He stated that he was notified that an unknown suspect or suspects had cloned his phone and made $240 in calls before the phone was shut off.
  • A resident of Spruce Mill Lane reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that she has received several phone calls from an unknown suspect or suspects, and that the caller or callers hang up shortly after she answers the phone.

Wednesday, Dec. 8:

  • The owner of a Route 22 gas station reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects spray-painted the back of his building.
  • The postmaster of the Scotch Plains post office reported being a victim of harassment. He stated that he received a call from a resident who demanded to know where his mail was, and that the resident then stated he was going to go to the post office and cause a problem.

Thursday, Dec. 9:

  • The manager of a Route 22 gas station reported being a victim of theft. He stated that a customer received $40 of gas and claimed to only have $20. The customer stated that he would be back to bring the rest of the money. He has since failed to return.
  • A resident of Elizabeth Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. He stated that he received a call from a car company stating that his loan had been approved. He stated that he has never applied for a loan and that he does not know how is information was obtained.
