Blotter: Tussel Lane Resident Reports House Burglary

Police activity in the borough April 6-11.

The is investigating a reported house burglary on Tussel Lane. On Friday, April 8, the resident reported that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his residence and removed about $5,000, according to a press release distributed by the police department. It is unknown how entrance was gained.

Wednesday, April 6:

  • A resident of Tussel Lane Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. She stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects keyed the side of her vehicle, which was parked in a parking lot outside her apartment.

Thursday, April 7:

  • A resident of Martine Avenue reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that a friend has been posting negative comments about her on Facebook. 
  • Police arrested John Mahlik, 45, of Warren Street in Scotch Plains, for driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped Mahlik for a motor vehicle violation on Jerusalem Road and, while speaking with him, smelled a strong odor of alcohol. After administering several field sobriety tests, which Mahlik failed, the officers placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

  • A resident of Eastham Court reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that an unknown suspect or suspects obtained a mortgage and purchased property in Elizabeth without her authorization or knowledge.
  • Police arrested Kevin Burrell, 23, of Plainfield, for possession of marijuana. Officers stopped Burrell for a motor vehicle violation on Lamberts Mill Road and, upon further investigation, found a quantity of marijuana in his vehicle. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, April 9:

  • Police arrested Darin Alba, 49, of South Plainfield, for a $165 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. officers stopped Alba for a motor vehicle violation on Park Avenue and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, April 10:

  • The manager of a business on Route 22 reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects removed two tires from a vehicle that was parked on his lot. The tires were valued at about $800.
  • The manager of a business on Route 22 also reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime over the weekend, an unknown suspect or suspects removed a vehicle that was parked in his lot. The vehicle was valued at about $10,000.
  • Police arrested Brian Ward, of Snellville, for an $800 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Offiers stopped Ward for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
