Blotter: Two Burglaries and Five Arrests in Scotch Plains

Police activity in the township from Aug. 23 through Aug. 30.

A resident of Mountain Avenue in Scotch Plains reported being a victim of burglary on Monday, Aug. 23, police said. The resident stated that while she was away on vacation, an unknown suspect or suspects entered her residence through a window. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed about $3,000 in jewelry. Police are investigating.

Monday, Aug. 23:

A resident of Marion Lane reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that an unknown suspect or suspects called her cell phone numerous times and hung up. Police are investigating.

A resident of Portland Avenue reported being a victim of burglary. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his vehicle, which was unlocked and parked in his driveway. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed $129 in cash.

Wednesday, Aug. 25:

A resident of Dogwood Drive reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects flipped over a can of paint on her driveway.

Thursday, Aug. 26:

A custodian at a Scotch Plains-Fanwood school reported an incident of criminal mischief at one of the schools. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects broke a light and wrote some graffiti on the side of the building.

A resident of Wareham Village reported being a victim of fraud. He stated that an unknown suspect or suspects opened a Facebook account in his name.

Friday, Aug. 27:

Police arrested Monique Cooper, 36, of Newark, for a $500 outstanding warrant issued by the Union court. Officers stopped Cooper for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Saturday, Aug. 28:

Police arrested Wayne Hartley, 36, of Plainfield, for a $430 outstanding warrant issued by the Branchburg court. Officers stopped Hartley for a motor vehicle violation on Mountain Avenue and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Police arrested James Dinizo, 20, of Marion Lane in Scotch Plains, for driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped Dinizo for a motor vehicle violation on Woodland Avenue and smelled the odor of alcohol, police said. After he failed several field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, Aug. 29:

Police arrested Maribel Bermudez, 38, of Garwood, for driving while intoxicated Officers stopped Bermudez for a motor vehicle violation on South Avenue and smelled the odor of alcohol, police said. After she failed several sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Monday, Aug. 30:

Police arrested Timothy Grimsley 38, of Newark, for a $675 outstanding warrant issued by the Millburn court. Officers stopped Grimsley for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
