Brief: Electrical Fire Forces Temporary Closure of Chetwood Terrace

The small blaze briefly threatened a minivan parked on the street nearby.

Heavy rain and wind gusts felled a live wire on Chetwood Terrace at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, sparking a small electrical fire on the sidewalk and causing police and firefighters to shutdown a section of the residential tree-lined street.

No residents were reported injured, according to Fanwood Fire Assistant Chief John Piccola, but the blaze burned close to a blue Dodge minivan parked on the street. Firefighters at the scene watched to ensure the flames did not spread to the vehicle. They extinguished the fire after workers from PSE&G, Elizabethtown Gas and New Jersey American Water arrived at the scene and shut-off nearby utilities.
