Brief: Scotch Plains and Fanwood Firefighters Assist Westfield Fire Department During Sunday Blaze

While the Westfield Fire Department battled a fire on Hort Street, the Scotch Plains and Fanwood fire departments covered the town in the event of another call.

Scotch Plains and Fanwood firefighters assisted the Westfield Fire Department as it responded to a fire in Westfield early Sunday morning. A lightning strike is believed to be the cause of the blaze.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on July 25, firefighters responded to 518 Hort Street, a Westfield Fire Department official said. The firefighters contained the fire to the home's kitchen, but smoke caused damage throughout the house. No injuries were reported.

The Cranford Fire Department responded to the scene of the fire. Firefighting units from Scotch Plains, Fanwood and Garwood went on standby to cover Westfield in the event of another call.
