Mayor Nancy Malool declared May 15 to 21 "Police Week" in Scotch Plains during the Township Council's monthly business meeting Wednesday, in honor of the 49th annual National Police Week.
The observance "publicly salutes the service of law enforcement officers in the community and communities across the nation," Malool said. "We appreciate what you do everyday. I think sometimes we take it for granted. And while people might say Scotch Plains is a fairly safe town, there's always risk."
Chief Brian Mahoney, joined by Detective Lt. Brian Donnelly and two other officers, accepted the honorary resolution on behalf of the . "We certainly appreciate the support of the council," Mahoney said. Police Week "gives us in law enforcement a time to look back and remember those who have gone before us doing the job that we love."
