Brief: SPPD Receives Four Defibrillators

Fundraisers help the department's charity foundation purchase the devices.

The Scotch Plains Police Foundation has donated four defibrillators to the , Sgt. Ted Conley wrote in a June email. The devices, which replaced four older defibrillators, were purchased with funds raised at two comedy shows hosted by the foundation.

The foundation, founded in 2009, seeks to offset some of the police department's costs and economic burdens through charity and fundraising events.

"The foundation's really kicked in for us," Detective Lt. Brian Donnelly, the  public information officer, said in an August 2010 telephone interview. "It allows us to get equipment in these trying times."

Jason and Steven Parker, the owners of on South Avenue in Fanwood, were principal sponsors of the comedy shows. In addition to the defibrillators, the shows also helped the foundation purchase and donate bulletproof vests for the dogs that work with the Scotch Plains Police Department's K9 unit.
