Car Burglary and Break-In Reported on 100-Block of Pleasant Avenue Sunday

Fanwood police activity July 8 through July 18.

Police received reports of a car burglary and a break-in on the 100-block of Pleasant Avenue between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

At 7:11 a.m., police received a report that an unknown suspect or suspects had smashed the window of a car parked in the driveway of a Pleasant Avenue residence and stolen a GPS, Fanwood Detective Eugene Chin said in a phone interview. The device was valued at $200. Police believe the burglary occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:11 a.m. Sunday.

At 7:36 a.m., police received a report of a second car break-in on Pleasant Avenue. An unknown suspect or suspects entered the car, which was parked in the driveway, and rifled through the interior. The owner reported nothing stolen, police said, and entrance was gained through the rear passenger window. Police believe the break-in occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:36 a.m. Sunday.

  • A motor vehicle collision led to the arrest of a Plainfield man Friday. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., Darrell Turner, 44, of Plainfield, was traveling north on Terrill Road in a Lincoln LS, Chin said, when he struck a Hyundai Tiburon exiting the Exxon station between LaGrande Avenue and South Avenue. Turner was driving erratically at the time, Chin said, swerving around cars and driving into oncoming traffic. He struck the driver's side of the Hyundai at a right angle, but there were no injuries. Upon checking each driver's credentials, officers discovered that Turner had been driving with a suspended license, and that he had a $555 outstanding warrant issued by Edison. They arrested Turner and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released on his own recognizance pending a court date.

 

Friday, July 9:

  • Police arrested Darrell Robinson, 39, of Plainfield for a $500 outstanding warrant issued by East Orange. At 8:39 a.m., officers stopped Robinson at LaGrande Avenue and Third Street for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • A Scotch Plains resident turned herself into Fanwood police headquarters for a $500 outstanding warrant from the borough. At 6 p.m., Mary Gecha-Gerus, 62, presented herself to the department's desk officer. After officers contacted the court administrator, Gecha-Gerus was released on her own recognizance pending a court date.

Saturday, July 10:

  • Police arrested Corwin Bey, 33, of Linden, for an active $500 warrant issued by Clark. At 8:26 a.m., officers stopped Bey at South Avenue and Second Street for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Darron Wallace, 44, of Monroe, for an outstanding $110 warrant issued by Elizabeth. At 1:36 p.m., Wallace entered Fanwood police headquarters to pay another warrant issued by the borough. When officers checked his credentials, they discovered the Elizabeth warrant. Wallace posted bail and was released.

Monday, July 12:

  • A motor vehicle stop led to two arrests Monday morning. At 9:55 a.m., officers stopped Todd Seay, Jr., 30, of Plainfield, for a motor vehicle violation. While being questioned, he provided a false name to officers. The officers charged Seay with hindering apprehension. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and issued a summons. 
  • Seay's passenger, Santeenya Brito, 30, of Plainfield, also volunteered false information. She had two outstanding warrants, a $350 North Plainfield warrant, and a $500 Plainfield warrant. Offices charged Brito with volunteering false information to law enforcement and transported her to police headquarters. She was issued a court date and picked-up by Plainfield police.

Tuesday, July 13:

  • A resident of Waldon Road reported being a victim of burglary. Between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday, an unknown suspect or suspects stole $100 cash from her car. The car was unlocked and parked in her driveway, police said, and the cash was stored in a pocketbook left in the vehicle. Police are investigating.

Saturday, July 17:

  • Police arrested Jimmy Chapman, 28, of Whitaker, Pa., for three outstanding warrants. At 12:49 p.m., officers pulled behind Chapman's vehicle and checked his credentials. They discovered that Chapman had two outstanding warrants from Roselle, and one outstanding warrant from Roselle Park, for a combined total of $2,198. They stopped him at South Avenue and Terrill Road, where he was arrested, transported to police headquarters and released after posting bail.
  • Police arrested Jasmine Morrison, 23, of Plainfield, for an outstanding $120 warrant issued by Fanwood. At 7:29 p.m., officers pulled behind Morrison's vehicle, checked her credential's, and discovered the warrant. They stopped Morrison at South Avenue, where she was arrested, transported to police headquarters and released.
