Driver Who Hit Library Had High Blood-Alcohol Level

Police had been awaiting results of toxicology tests.

The Scotch Plains woman who ran into the library in late July had a blood alcohol level of .203 at the time of the crash, police said this week.

Scotch Plains Police had been awaiting toxiciology results on Cari Rappaport, 31, of Victor Street, for a few weeks. The legal limit is .08.

Rappaport hit the children's department of the Scotch Plains Public Library around 6:30 p.m. on July 30 when she was driving north on Forest Road and went through the stop sign. She veered to the left off Bartle Avenue, running into the building. She was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Rappaport was charged with reckless driving, possession of narcotics and driving under the influence. She was also charged with aggravated assault for being combative with one of the rescue workers.

Because she was charged with assault, her case is being handled by Union County Court.
