Fanwood PD Investigate Stolen Jewlery, iPods, and GPS Units

Thefts and arrests for active warrants top the list of recent criminal activity in Fanwood.

Theft

A North Avenue resident reported that a theft occurred at his home sometime between January 1 and April 1. The victim stated that he is missing two watches valued at $4,200 from his bedroom. It is unknown who took them at this time.

On April 7, a GPS and iPod valued at $350 were stolen from a vehicle parked in the driveway of an Oak Court residence. The victim stated that the theft occurred sometime between 8 and 9:30 p.m. Entrance was gained through an unlocked door.

 On April 7, a car radio valued at $135 was stolen from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Stewart Place home. The victim stated that the theft occurred sometime between 6:30 p.m. on April 7 and 10:45 a.m. on April 8. Entrance was gained through an unlocked door.

Criminal Mischief

A Forest Road resident reported that between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on April 5, unknown suspect(s) committed an act of criminal mischief to his parked vehicle.

Arrests

Yahmira Arthur, 27, of Elizabeth was arrested at 11:38 a.m. on April 2 for an active warrant out of South Plainfield. The Officer stopped Arthur for a made a motor vehicle violation on Midway Avenue and discovered the warrant. Arthur was arrested, processed, posted bail and released.

 Jewel Barthe, 51, of Scotch Plains was arrested at 9:04 a.m. on April 4 for active warrants out of Piscataway, Morristown, and Fanwood. The Officer stopped Barthe for a motor vehicle violation at East Second Street and Terrill Road and discovered the warrants. Barthe was arrested, processed and turned over to Piscataway PD.

Shakira Chance –Wynn, 32, of Newark was arrested at 1:09 p.m. on April 6 for an active warrant out of Woodbridge. The Officer stopped Chance-Wynn for a motor vehicle violation at Terrill Road and South Avenue and discovered the warrant. Chance-Wynn was arrested, processed, posted bail and released.

The Officer also checked the passenger traveling with Shakira Chance-Wynn and discovered an active warrant out of Elizabeth. Aryn Chance, 25, of Newark, was arrested, processed and released by Elizabeth court.

On April 5, at 8:35 p.m. Fanwood Police responded to the 90 block of Coriell Avenue following . Upon the Officers arrival, they located a suspect and took him into custody. The investigation found that the suspect fired shots at his neighbor’s fence from the vantage point of a second floor window in his house. Approximately six rounds were fired and recovered by Police. No one was injured in this incident.

The defendant in this case is . Stewart was charged with: possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, possession of prohibited weapons, possession of a high capacity ammunition magazine. Bail was set at $ 57,000.00 no 10% by Superior Court Judge Stuart Pein. Stewart was transported to the Union County Jail where he awaits trial.
