Fanwood Police Chief Announces Resignation

The announcement was made during the borough council's last meeting.

After 33 years on the police force, Fanwood Police Chief Donald Domanoski will be ending his career there soon.

Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr announced in the borough council meeting this week that Domanoski will be retiring as of Jan. 31, 2010.

Domanoski was promoted to chief in July 2002. He started his career at the police department as a patrolman in 1977, and was later assigned to traffic in 1984. Domanoski was promoted to corporal in 1987 and sergeant in 1989. In 1994, he was promoted to Lieutenant of Operations Division. He became a captain in 1998.

In addition to his role as chief of police, Domanoski serves as a member of the Union County Emergency Response Team, commonly referred to as the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. Domanowski will step down from that position as well.

"His leadership will be missed," Mahr said. "Chief Domanoski has served the mayor and council and the entire community with the utmost professionalism and has always been dedicated to safeguarding Fanwood's welfare and safety. On a personal note,  I have enjoyed working with him, learning from him and I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
