Fanwood Police Investigating Smash-and-Grab Burglary

Similar crimes have occurred in other towns recently.

Fanwood Police are investigating a smash-and-grab burglary that occurred at the Fanwood Corner Store on July 31.

At approximately 2:36 a.m., someone broke the front door to the building, located at 34 S. Martine Ave., and stole four boxes of cigars and 66 cartons of cigarettes.

Sgt. Thomas Jedic of the police department said that similar crimes have happened recently in other towns as far as Dunellen. Police are currently working with other departments to see if there's a connection.

"These smash-and-grabs, usually if someone has done one, they'll do more than one," he said. "They try to hit as many as they can."
