Fanwood Police Reports: Dec. 8 to 18

Police activity from the past week.

Fanwood police arrested an Elizabeth woman last week for attempting to illegally take money out of a local bank.

Cynthia Hernandez, 27, was arrested and charged with theft and forgery after she filled out several withdrawal slips at a local bank and tried to take money out of someone's account.

She was released after posting $1,000 bail.

Police also arrested another person for shoplifting last week and are investigating several vehicle burglaries in town. Below is a full account of their most recent activity.

Wednesday, Dec. 9:

  • Andres F. Ortegan, 22, of North Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding Plainfield warrant after a motor vehicle stop at 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Terill Road and Midway Avenue. He was processed, posted bail and was released.

Thursday, Dec. 10:

  • Tyson R. Sergant, 27, of Plainfield, was arrested after a filed investigation on Martine Avenue at 6:14 p.m. He was taken to Union County Jail after failing to post bail.

Friday, Dec. 11:

  • Sometime between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m, a resident of the 100 block of Laurel Place had a snare drum stolen, which had been left out in the driveway. It was valued at $200.

Saturday, Dec. 12:

  • Gabriel A. Deniquez, 32, of Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding Garfield warrant after a motor vehicle stop at 2:37 p.m. at the intersection of Terrill Road and E. Second Street. He was processed, posted bail and was released.

Sunday, Dec. 13:

  • Martha O. Garcia, 30, of Brooklyn, was arrested at 2:37 p.m. for shoplifting  at a store on the 500 block of North Avenue. She was issued a summons and released.
  • Sometime between 8 p.m. Dec. 13 and 7 a.m. Dec. 14, someone broke the side window of a parked vehicle on the 50 block of Elm Avenue and removed a GPS unit.
  • Sometime between 10 p.m. Dec. 13 and 5 a.m. Dec. 14, a resident of the 100 block of Farley Avenue reported that someone broke their driver's side window and entered the vehicle. As of now the resident doesn't know if anything is missing.

Wednesday, Dec. 16:

  • Sometime between 11 a.m. Dec. 16 and 5 a.m. Dec. 17, 27 vehicles were entered on the south side of town. All of the vehicles were unlocked. Valuables were taken from some of the vehicles, while others were just rifled through. Police are investigating.
