FW Police Reports: Two Thefts and Several Arrests of Out-of-Towners

Fanwood police activity for the week of June 18 to June 23.

A couple of thefts were reported earlier this week in Fanwood.

Sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday and 6:45 a.m. Monday, a resident of the 100 block of Helen Street reported that someone removed a bicycle from his garage valued at $800.

Then sometime between 9:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday morning, a resident of the 100 block of La Grande Avenue had a 2007 four-door Toyota stolen. The car was recovered the same day in Newark.

Thursday, June 18

  • Fabian Palacio-Aulesti, 60, of Linden, was arrested at 4:58 p.m. at the intersection of Midway Avenue and Terrill Road for an outstanding Sea Bright warrant. An officer discovered the warrant after Palacio-Aulesti was stopped on a motor vehicle violation. He was processed, posted bail and released.

Friday, June 19

  • A bank on the 500 block of North Avenue reported at 2:24 p.m. that someone tried to cash a $350 check on a closed account. Police are in the process of identifying the individual. Complaints are pending.
  • Vera P. Cajueiro, 52, of Newark, was arrested at 5:5p p.m. at the intersection of North and Morris avenues for several outstanding Harrison warrants. An officer discovered the warrants after stopping Cajueiro on a motor vehicle violation. She posted bail and was released.
  • Albert E. Smith, 42, of New York, was arrested at 8:10 p.m. on an outstanding Scotch Plains warrant after a motor vehicle stop. He posted bail and was released.

Saturday, June 20

  • Leon E. Shanks Jr., 38, of Rahway, was arrested at 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of North Avenue and Terrill Road for an outstanding Scotch Plains warrant after a motor vehicle stop. He posted bail and was released.

Sunday, June 21

  • A 13-year-old Fanwood resident and two 13-year-old Scotch Plains residents were arrested at 4:38 p.m. at Forest Road Park on suspicion of spraying graffiti at several local parks over the past week. Police are still investigating, and the boys are awaiting trial in juvenile court.
