Letter to the Editor: SP Fire Department Saved Our Lives
Local residents have a lot to be grateful for after their carbon monoxide alarm went off and the SPFD responded to the scene.
To the Editor of the Patch:
Last night our fire and carbon monoxide alarms went off in the house.
We thought originally that the batteries needed replacement. However that was not the issue. The alarms persisted and we called in the Scotch Plains fire department.Their efficient and sensitive support saved our lives.

There was a very high reading of carbon monoxide coming from our furnace. They shut off the furnace, opened the windows, and used an exhaust fan to clear the air (the air that would have surely caused our death).
When the reading had dropped to a reasonable level they left.We are so grateful to them for their service to our community.....knowing that most of the department consists of volunteers.
