Lock Your Car Doors: Vehicle Burglaries Sweep SPF

A series of vehicle burglaries has local law enforcement urging residents to lock their car doors. The culprits responsible for the widespread theft have not been found.

Chief Richard Trigo is urging residents to lock their car doors after a series of thefts occurred on the southwest side of town last night.

Chief Trigo stated that between the hours of 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 and 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, four vehicles in the area of Helen Street and Marian Avenue were entered through unlocked doors by unknown suspects. Moveable property was stolen from each of the four vehicles.

Scotch Plains was also hit hard with vehicle burglaries this week. According to the SPPD, there were four vehicle burglaries on Belvedere Drive, five on Coles Avenue, and one on William Street.

Two weeks ago, Fanwood police reported that a GPS valued at $100 was parked outside a Herbert Avenue home.  Scotch Plains also saw a last week with GPS units or other valuables disappearing from unlocked vehicles on Cecilia Place, Weaver Street and Hunter Road.

The is also advising residents to keep car doors locked at all times and to not leave valuable items in the car. SPPD will be increasing patrol in the area in which these recent burglaries occurred.
