Crime & Safety

Mirror, Mirror on the – Wait, Where Did it Go?

A stolen mirror was among the crimes reported in Fanwood this week. Police activity: June 8 to June 16.

Fanwood police responded to what was at first reported as a possible hit-and-run Tuesday, Fanwood detective Eugene Chin said in a phone interview. At  about 7 a.m., a Scotch Plains resident parked her car on Helen Street and walked inside a residence. When she returned to her car about two hours later, she discovered that the driver's side mirror was missing from her car.

When borough police arrived, they discovered that the mirror's screws and bolts had, in fact, been removed. Rather than a hit-and-run, it appeared that a suspect or suspects had stolen the mirror, Chin said. There were no witnesses to the theft. The mirror was valued at about $118.
