NJ.com: Manhunt Underway in Union County for Inmate

The inmate escaped from Union County Jail just after midnight.

A manhunt is currently being conducted throughout Union County in search of an inmate who escaped from Union County Jail just after midnight.

The Star-Ledger reports that Phillip Ruddy, of Rahway, and another inmate were emptying trash outside the Elizabeth jail when Ruddy ran off.

He was sent to Union County jail on June 1, after a parole violation stemming from a burglary conviction for which he served 16 months in prison.
