Police Arrest Scotch Plains Man for Assaulting Officers

The following information was provided by the Scotch Plains Police Department.

Scotch Plains police have released details about a recent incident that resulted in a local man assaulting officers.

On Thursday, April 15, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police were called to Kramer Manor Park on a report of two people arguing. Upon arrival, Officer Joseph Citarella observed the defendant, Adrian Hall, 20, of Scotch Plains, sitting on a curb with one hand behind his back. When Officer Citarella began speaking with Hall, he told the officer he was sorry he was going to have to do this and then pulled a large survival type knife from behind his back and began to raise it towards him.

Officer Citarella was able to tackle Hall, and after a violent struggle, he was able to knock the knife from Hall's hand. During the struggle, Hall struck Officer Citarella several times with his elbow and shoulder. Additional officers arrived and Hall continued to fight the other officers until they were able to handcuff him.

He was transported to police headquarters, where he continued to struggle with the police. Hall tried to kick his way out of the patrol car and also tried to kick and spit at the officers. Once inside the cell block area, Hall lunged at Sgt. Michael Tardi with his shoulder. He continued to struggle and had to be restrained in his cell. He finally calmed down and officers were able to process him.

Hall, who resides on Overlook Way in Scotch Plains, was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault on police officers, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, resisting arrest and hindering apprehension.

After processing, he was transported to the Union County Jail. Hall is being held on $75,000 cash bail. Off. Citarella suffered minor injuries to his mouth. He was treated and released.
