Police Chase through Union, Somerset Counties Results in Arrest Friday

The following information was obtained through the Berkeley Heights Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Plainfield, NJ man was arrested Friday morning as the result of a police chase through Berkeley Heights, Watchung, Scotch Plains, and Plainfield.

Desmond Pratt, 44, was charged with receiving stolen property, eluding a police officer, possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Berkeley Heights Lt. Frank Fortunato.

On Friday morning, Berkeley Heights Ptl. Andrew Glaydura was monitoring traffic on Plainfield Avenue when he ran the license plates for a 1995 Chevy Tahoe through the N.J. Motor Vehicle Commission.

He found that the vehicle was reported stolen from Newark on Monday, July 23.

Glaydura attempted to stop the driver, Pratt, near Bonnie Burn Road and Valley Road in Berkeley Heights.

Pratt refused to stop and continued driving down Bonnie Burn Road onto Park Avenue in Scotch Plains, turning left onto East 2nd Street and continuing to make turns through the area.  Berkeley Heights police, with the assistance of Union County Police and Fanwood Police, pursued the driver.

Pratt finally surrendered at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Front Street in Plainfield.

Upon arrest, Pratt was found to be in possession of four wax folds of heroin and 3 hypodermic needles.

He was brought to police headquarters, processed, and charged.

Pratt’s bail was set for $15,000.
