Scotch Plains Named 33rd Safest Community in NJ by Safewise

Scotch Plains outranked Summit, Westfield and Cranford.

Scotch Plains was named the 33rd safest community in New Jersey earlier this month bySafewise, a company dedicated to reviewing and analyzing security systems.

In its list of the Top 50 Safe Safest Communities in New Jersey, Safewise described Scotch Plains as "a friendly community where it won’t take you long to meet new people."

The description goes on to discuss the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Newcomer's Club and the Parks Open Space Trust Fund.

To create the Top 50 list, Safewise uses the data from the 2011 FBI's Crime in the U.S. Report, in addition to the company's own comprehensive investigation.

Union County neighbors also made the list with Cranford (34), Westfield (36) and Summit (44). The No. 1 safest community was Mahwah Township.
