Scotch Plains PD Arrest Resident For Carjacking, Aggravated Assault

On Saturday March 2, 2013 at approximately 11:50 a.m. , the Scotch Plains Police Department received a 911 call of a report of a carjacking that just occurred at Route 22 and Harding Road.  The arriving officers located two male victims age 50 and his son age 18, both area residents.  Investigation reveals that a suspect who was known to the pair entered the family vehicle and forced the victims out.  The suspect put the vehicle in reverse and struck both victims knocking them to the ground.  The 50 yr old male was dragged several feet before the suspect put the vehicle in drive and fled the scene.   This victim was treated and released at Overlook Hospital for minor injuries.  

The suspect driving the victim’s vehicle was subsequently located in Old Bridge, NJ by members of the Scotch Plains Police Detective Bureau.  Julio Maldonado age 21 of Front St. Scotch Plains N.J.  was placed under arrest without incident.

Maldonado was taken to the Scotch Plains Police department where he was processed and charged with 1st degree Carjacking, 2nd degree Aggravated Assault, 3rd degree Aggravated Assault and 3rd degree Receiving Stolen Property.  He was later transported to the Union County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail that was set by the Municipal Court Judge. 

Maldonado's next court date will be at 9:00 a.m. at the Union County Superior Court in Elizabeth.
