Scotch Plains Police Blotter

Arrests for hindering apprehension, disorderly conduct and outstanding warrant top the list of recent criminal activity reported in Scotch Plains.

Arrests

Jimmy Torres, 23, of Paterson, was arrested on December 30. Officer Silva stopped Torres for a motor vehicle violation on South Avenue and discovered a 280 dollars outstanding warrant issued by the Woodland Park court. Torres was transported to police headquarters, processed, and released.

Edward McNealy, 22, of Plainfield was arrested on December 31, for hindering apprehension.   Officer Ostrowski stopped McNealy for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and during the stop McNealy provided several false names and identification. McNealy was transported to police headquarters, processed, and released.  31

Gregory Whitman, 22 of Boulder, Colorado, was arrested on December 31 for disorderly conduct. Officer Ostrowski observed Whitman urinating on the sidewalk at Park Avenue and Bartle Avenue while on a routine patrol of the area. Whitman was placed under arrest and was transported to H.Q. where he was processed and released.

Theft

On December 27, a theft occurred on Williams Street. The victim stated that sometime during the day, day unknown suspect(s) stole his bicycle, valued at 130 dollars. The bicycle was left unlocked in his driveway. 

Harassment

On December 27, the manager of a Route 22 store reported being the victim of harassment. The victim stated that she had received several calls in the last week from an unknown suspect who would yell obscenities at her.

Fraud

On December 28, Acacia Road resident reported an act of fraud. The victim stated that his he was paid with a check from a closed bank account.

Criminal Mischief

On December 29, A Byrd Avenue resident reported an act of criminal mischief. The victim stated that sometime during the night unknown suspect(s) knocked over his basketball hoop valued at 300 dollars. 

On December 30, A Clydesdale Drive resident reported an act of criminal mischief.

The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) had smashed her mailbox valued at 80 dollars.

Burglary

On December 30, a burglary occurred at a Terrill Road store. The manager stated that sometime overnight unknown suspect(s) entered his store, gaining entry by smashing the front garage window. Once inside, the burglars moved items around but did not take anything.

Customer Dispute

On January 1, the manager of a Route 22 gas station called to report a customer dispute.  The manager stated that a customer asked for gas and then refused to pay for it.  The matter was resolved by the responding officers.
