Scotch Plains Police: Five Arrests and Seven Reported Crimes

Scotch Plains Police Reports for June 5 through June 12.

The Scotch Plains Police Department reported five arrests and seven crimes last week. Two of the arrests are included here. The other three – one for obstruction of justice, two for burglary – will appear in separate articles this week.

Monday, July 5:

  • An owner of a Route 22 business reported being a victim of theft. He stated that an unknown suspect or suspects went onto his property sometime overnight and removed several plants and bushes. The total value of the stolen property was about $800.

Tuesday, July 6:

  • A resident of New Providence Road reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that while she was buying gas at a Route 22 station, the attendant asked her several personal questions and continued to try to talk with her after she was done.
  • A resident of Valley Road reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that over the past several weeks, an unknown suspect or suspects made purchases on her debit card without her authorization. The purchases totaled about $250. She said she did not know how the suspect or suspects acquired her card number.
  • Police arrested Kasim Wazeerud-Dun, 26, of South Orange, for a $115 outstanding warrant issued by the Maplewood court. An officer stopped Dun for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. Dun was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Shawn Mitlo, 29, of Watchung, for a no-bail warrant issued by the Middlesex County Superior Court. An officer stopped Mitlo for a motor vehicle violation on Park Avenue and discovered the warrant. Mitlo was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released to the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department.

Thursday, July 8:

  • A resident of Evergreen Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime during the day, an unknown suspect or suspects broke the window of his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.
  • A resident of Seward Drive reported being a victim of fraud. He stated that over the past several weeks, an unknown suspect or suspects made purchases on his credit card without his authorization. The purchases totaled about $300. He said he did not know how the suspect or suspects acquired his card number.
