Scotch Plains Police Reports: Dec. 1 to 7

Activity from the past week.

A recent Scotch Plains incident is a reminder to be wary of suspicious phone calls.

On Friday, Dec. 4, a resident of Aberdeen Road reported to police that he was a victim of fraud. The man stated that an unknown suspect called his house stating that a relative was in trouble and money needed to be sent to help him out. The resident then wired $1,800 to the suspect. Police are investigating.

In addition to that incident, police dealt with several DWIs, burglaries and thefts last week. Here's a look back.

Tuesday, Dec. 1:

  • Harry Leavitt, 21, of Fanwood, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Leavitt was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer detected the smell of alcohol. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thursday, Dec. 3:

  • Jorge Rivera, 35, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Friday, Dec. 4:

  • Dyvonne Abner, 43, of Linden, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Abner was stopped for a motor vehicle officer when the officer detected the smell of alcohol. She was transported to police headquarters, then processed and released.
  • An employee of a Route 22 gas station reported being a victim of theft. The man stated that an unknown suspect entered his store and removed approximately 10 packs of cigarettes from the counter, valued at approximately $75.

Saturday, Dec. 5:

  • A resident of Jerusalem Road reported being a victim of a burglary. the woman stated that an unknown suspect broke the window of her vehicle and removed her GPS, valued at approximately $160.

Sunday, Dec. 6:

  • A resident of Round Hill Road reported being a victim of a burglary. The man stated that an unknown suspect entered his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway, and removed an undetermined amount of money.
  • Carmen Velez, 46, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle stop. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Monday, Dec. 7:

  • Nadir Clark, 23, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
