Scotch Plains Police Reports: Dec. 23 to 26

Police activity from the past week.

The spirit of Christmas didn't deter criminals from attempting to break into vehicles in Scotch Plains on that day.

Police arrested Harvey Nix, 28, of Plainfield, on Dec. 25 after they received a report of a disturbance on Prospect Street. When they arrived on the scene, they found Nix busting the window of a resident's vehicle. Nix was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Also that day, a resident of Raritan Road reported being a victim of theft after an unknown suspect removed his license plates from his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway.

Here's the rest of the police activity from the past week.

Wednesday, Dec. 23:

  • Anthony Reynolds, 42, of Scotch Plains, was arrested for resisting arrest. Police responded to a report of a disturbance, and when they arrived on the scene and tried to speak with Reynolds, he shoved a police officer out of the way and tried to run. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thursday, Dec. 24:

  • Lucinia Almeida, 34, of Southampton, N.Y., was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Almeida was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the smell of alcohol. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Friday, Dec. 25:

  • A resident of Haven Avenue reported being a victim of harassment. The man stated that he's been having an ongoing dispute with a former business associate and that the man has mailed letters to the victim's business clients telling them that his business is a fraud.

Saturday, Dec. 26:

  • A resident of Fenimore Drive reported being a victim of fraud. The woman stated that an unknown suspect changed the address of her credit card billing so that they could receive a new card.
  • A resident of Unami Lane reported being a victim of fraud. The man stated that an unknown suspect obtained his checking account number and withdrew approximately $900 in cash.
  • A resident of Scotchwood Glen reported being a victim of theft. The woman stated that she left money to tip her garbage men, but that an unknown suspect removed the money before the garbage was picked up.
