Scotch Plains Police Reports: Jan. 25 to 30

Police activity from the past week.

Scotch Plains police are investigating who called a local woman over the weekend and tried to convince her that her grandson was in need of money.

The resident of Aberdeen Road contacted police on Jan. 30 and told them that she'd received a call from an unknown suspect telling her that her grandson was in trouble in Canada and needed money. The woman didn't give the money, and instead called her grandson. Once she realized it was a hoax, she contacted police.

Police are also looking into another fraud report from earlier in the week. A resident of Prospect Avenue contacted police on Jan. 26 to report that someone cashed a fraudulent check from his business account in the amount of $1,976. The victim did not recognize the name that was on the check.
