Scotch Plains Police Reports: March 31 to April 4

Police activity in the township from the past week.

Scotch Plains police are investigating reports of burglary and theft last week.

The burglary incident occurred on March 31, when a resident of Rhonda Place reported that somoene had entered his vehicle, which was parked in the street, and removed his GPS. The device was valued at approximately $250.

The next day on April 1, a resident of Ridgeview Avenue reported being a victim of theft. The woman told police that an unknown suspect removed items from her basement, which were valued at approximately $750. She stated that workers do have access to her house, so they may have been responsible.

Below are the rest of the recent township police reports.

Wednesday, March 31:

  • Khyre Alley, 20, of Hillside, was arrested for shoplifting. Police responded to a call from the manager of a Park Avenue store, and when they arrived they found Alley walking on the street, where he confessed to taking the item without paying. Alley was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Joel Jefferson, 41, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle violation. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • A resident of Meadowview Road reported being a victim of harassment. The man told police that an unknown suspect has sent him several texts containing vulgar and profane messages.

Thursday, April 1:

  • A resident of Shady Lane reported being a victim of fraud. The woman told police that an unknown suspect hacked into her e-mail accounts and has been charging items to various accounts.

Sunday, April 4:

  • A manager of a Route 22 store reported being a victim of shoplifting. The man stated that an unknown suspect entered his store and removed games, valued at approximately $470.
  • Ty Acquisto, 24, of Rahway, was arrested for possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. Acquisto was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when officers discovered the odor of the drug. He then tried to eat the marijuana in his possession to get rid of it. Acquisto was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Michael Mitchell, 25, of Bronx, N.Y., was arrested for obstruction of justice. Police responded to a report of a fight at a Route 22 restaurant, and when they arrived they observed Mitchell yelling in the parking lot. After numerous requests to leave the area, he continued to yell. He was then placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
