Scotch Plains Woman Injured After SUV Flips in Two-Car Accident in Fanwood

The woman is being treated at University Hospital in Newark.

A Scotch Plains woman has been transported to University Hospital in Newark following a serious two-car accident at the intersection of LaGrande Avenue and Terrill Road this afternoon.

Fanwood Police Sgt. Tom Jedic told Patch on the scene that the woman, along with her 23-year-old daughter, were driving eastbound in their SUV shortly before 1 p.m. when they collided with a teal-colored minivan that was traveling north, causing their vehicle to flip and roll on LaGrande Avenue. The minivan was driven by a Plainfield man in his 70s. Police weren't sure of the woman's age.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by the Plainfield Fire Department using Jaws of Life. The man was transported to Overlook Hospital in Summit. Because the SUV flipped, Jedic said the woman was taken to University Hospital for precaution.

Police said they're not yet sure the exact cause of the accident. The matter is still under investigation.

Police were clearing the road and removing crime scene tape around 1:15 p.m.
