Slow Down Or Pay Up In Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains police officers are putting the brakes on speeders

by the Scotch Plains Police Department

Would you like a chance to meet a Scotch Plains Police Officer?  If you’re speeding in Scotch Plains, chances are you will.

In response to countless complaints from residents about speeding on our streets, Scotch Plains Police Chief Brian T. Mahoney has instructed his Patrol Division as well as his Traffic Bureau to make speeding, and careless driving, a top priority.

“Our police vehicles are equipped with state of the art radar units and officers that are trained to use them”, said Chief Mahoney. The new initiative is called, “Slow Down or Pay Up”.

Slow Down or Pay Up” is not a two week crack down.  Speeding and careless driving near our schools, on our narrow residential roads, and on our primary roadways, will simply no longer be tolerated.

There are no quick fixes to combat speeders.  “The plan is simple”, said the Chief.  “Slow Down or Pay Up”.

They also need to concentrate on motorists who do not stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

How about making the out of towners that clog up our main roads and side streets pay for parking. Take a look in the morning at all the out of towners that come into Scotch Plains, Park on our streets for free and catch the bus to NYC. Why pay at the Park and Ride when you can park free and stick to it to Scotch Plains taxpayers for road maintenance and picking up the litter these folks leave behind at the bus stops. Other towns do it why don't we?
