SP Fire Department Battles Short Hills Lane Blaze

Firefighters responded to a working fire at 6 Short Hills Lane shortly after 7 p.m. this evening.

Nearly an hour and a half after the Scotch Plains Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 6 Short Hills Lane in Scotch Plains, fire fighters from Scotch Plains and neiboring communities are still working to battle the blaze.

Scotch Plains Police Captain Brian Donnelly stated that no one was home when the blaze began and the fire department has yet to deterimine the cause of the two alarm fire. Donnelly also said that at this time, the fire department has no reason to believe that the cause is suspicious.

A call for mutual aid was placed, but so far the fire department has been able to contain the fire, protecting neighboring houses from any damage. Fire crews from Fanwood, Clark, and Garwood responded to the call. No one has sustained injuries, however the Westfield Rescue Squad was on the scene.
