Police are investigating two home burglaries reported on the north side of Scotch Plains, according to a press release distributed by Detective Lt. Brian Donnelly, the public information officer.
On Monday, a resident in the 2500-block of Mountain Avenue told police that sometime between 7:30 and 10 p.m., an unknown suspect or suspects broke through a rear window and proceeded to steal checkbooks and about $4,000 in jewelry, Donnelly stated. The perpetrator or perpetrators fled through a sliding glass door.
The following day, a resident of Acacia Road, located off Mountain Avenue, reported that sometime between 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1:49 a.m. on Tuesday, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his residence through a rear window and stole about $1,500 in jewelry, Donnelly wrote. The burglar or burglars cut through the window's screen and smashed the glass pane with a rock.
