SP Police Receive Justice Department Grant

Over $1.3 million was awarded across Union County.

The Scotch Plains Police Department will be receiving $13,682 for office/management training for crime prevention and juvenile intervention, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The grant is part of the justice department's Edward Byrne Memorial Assistance Grant Program. Union County officials announced the Scotch Plains grant Thursday afternoon. Over $1.3 million was awarded in total to municipalities throughout the county.

The Edward Byrne Grant is named after New York City Police Officer Edward Byrne, who was killed in the line of duty in 1988 when he was guarding the witness to a drug deal.
