SP Police Reports: DWI, Possession, Theft and Fraud

Police activity from Aug. 25 to 30.

Scotch Plains Police Department's drunk driving campaign continued last weekend, with officers arresting one Scotch Plains resident on Friday night for driving under the influence.

Michael DeFazio, 24, of Scotch Plains, was arrested for driving while intoxicated after an officer stopped him for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the odor of alcohol. DeFazio was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

The "Over the Limit, Under Arrest" campaign involves increased patrol across the township. It runs through Labor Day.

Aside from that incident, several others were arrested over the weekend for possession and outstanding warrants. Residents also reported criminal mischief, theft and fraud.

Tuesday, August 25:

  • Tiquana Cabbell, 20, of Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Cabbell was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • A resident of Martine Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. The woman stated that an unknown suspect damaged the bushes in her front lawn. The bushes were valued at approximately $75.

Wednesday, August 26:

  • Police investigated a hit and run vehicle accident that occurred on Mountain Avenue. The victim stated that an unknown suspect struck his vehicle, which was legally parked, and caused damage to the rear of his vehicle.

Friday, August 28:

  • Richard Holloway, 35, of Bloomfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Holloway was stopped on a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, August 29:

  • Naim Jeffrey, 28, of Hillside, was arrested for possession of marijuana. Jeffrey was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the marijuana. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, August 30:

  • Jillian Parlapiano, 24, of Clark, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Parlapiano was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the warrant. Parlapiano was transported to police headquarters, and then processed and released.
  • A resident of Sims Avenue reported being a victim of theft. The man stated that he had a friend over and that when he left, he noticed that his X-Box was missing. The X-Box was valued at approximately $300.
  • A resident of Lamberts Mill Road reported being a victim of fraud. The woman stated that an unknown suspect opened up a credit card in her name without her authorization. The suspect then used the car to make $2,000 in purchases.
