SP Police Reports: Nov. 10 to 15

Fraud, assault and theft were among the reports.

Scotch Plains police are investigating two accounts of fraud from last week.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 12. A resident of Sycamore Avenue reported at that time that an unknown suspect attempted to purchase several thousand dollars worth of merchandise on her credit card. She does not know how her card numbers were obtained.

The second incident was reported on Friday, Nov. 13. On that day, a resident of Chapel Road reported being a victim of fraud. The woman stated that an unknown suspect tried to use her name and social security number to obtain unemployment benefits.

Aside from those reports, theft, assault and robbery were among the other incidents from the past week. Here's a look at what happened.

Tuesday, Nov. 10:

  • Kimberly Jenkins, 33, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle violation stop. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • Barton Hodge, 33, of Roselle, was arrested on an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle violation stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Joshua Newberg, 22, of Westfield, and John Harrington, 27, of Garwood, were arrested for distributing marijuana. An officer discovered the marijuana after stopping the two men for a motor vehicle violation. They were transported to police headquarters, where they were processed and released after posting bail.

Wednesday, Nov. 11:

  • A patron at a Lamberts Mill Road Health Club reported being a victim of theft. The woman stated that she left her bag in an unlocked locker, only to discover it missing when she returned. Items inside the bag included several pieces of clothing, valued at approximately $100.

Friday, Nov. 13:

  • A resident of Greensview Court reported being a victim of an assault. The man stated that he got into a disagreement with a person he knew, and that that person struck him in the face once, causing a small cut.

Sunday, Nov. 15:

  • Police responded to an armed robbery at a Route 22 gas station, as previously reported on Patch. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the gas attendant had been struck in the face with an object, causing a cut to his face and head. He was transported to the hospital for treatment to his wounds. The attendant stated that four suspects entered the station in a vehicle and after requesting gas they got out and struck him. While he was on the ground, they removed several hundred dollars in cash and then drove off.
