SPPD Investigates Drive-by Indecent Exposure, Highway Brawl

Police investigate a runaway flasher, break up a Route 22 brawl.

Indecent Exposure

On June 12, a Swans Mill Lane resident reported that a motorist exposed himself to her while she was walking in Scotch Plains. The victim stated that a motorist stopped to ask her for directions and then he exposed himself to her. The suspect then immediately drove away.  The driver is described as a black male between the ages of 18 and 20 driving a small black four-door vehicle.

On June 13, Scotch Plains Police responded to a disturbance at approximately 3 p.m. on Route 22. Upon arrival, the officers discovered two motorists arguing after one tried to pass the other on the highway. Police were able to calm the drivers down and advised them to leave the area. The two drivers promptly left the scene.

Fraud

On June 11, a Round Hill Road resident reported being a victim of fraud. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) made several hundred dollars in purchases on her credit card without her authorization.

On June 12, a Burnham Court resident reported being a victim of fraud. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) opened up a credit card without his authorization and made approximately $1,800 in charges.

On June 14, a Spruce Mill Lane resident reported being victim of fraud. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) opened up a credit card without his authorization and made approximately $1,200 in charges.

On June 14, a Nicole Court resident reported being a victim of fraud. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) made approximately $900 in purchases on her credit card without her authorization.

Harassment

On June 11, a Lake Avenue resident reported being a victim of harassment. The victim stated that she receives several calls a day from an ex-friend.

On June 15, an East Second Street resident reported being a victim of harassment. The victim stated that a neighbor has repeatedly made contact with him at all hours of the night.

Theft

On June 14, a theft occurred at Park Middle School. A student reported that unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked locker and removed an iPhone valued at approximately $300.

Arrests

Suzette Castillo, 36, of North Plainfield, was arrested on June 12, for driving while intoxicated. Officer Luciano stopped Castillo for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22. While speaking with Castillo, Officer Luciano smelled a strong odor of alcohol. After she failed several field sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released. 

Erica Espinosa, 23, of North Plainfield, was arrested on June 16, for possession of marijuana. Officer Budzinski stopped Espinosa for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and observed the marijuana while speaking with her. Espinosa was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released after posting bail.    

Leon Golding, 44, of Scotch Plains, was arrested on June 15, for an $828 outstanding warrant issued by the Fanwood court. Officer Richie stopped Golding for a motor vehicle violation on Westfield Avenue and discovered the warrant.  Golding was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released.

Justin Brown, 33, of Piscataway, was arrested on June 15, for a $200 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Officer Richie stopped Brown for a motor vehicle violation on Forest Road and discovered the warrant.  Brown was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released.

Ali Zeigler, 21, of Linden, was arrested on June 16, for a $1,000 outstanding warrant issued by the Linden court. Officer Pearson stopped Zeigler for a motor vehicle violation on Raritan Road and discovered the warrant. Zeigler was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released.
