SPPD: 'Stay Off the Road'

The following messages were sent by Scotch Plains Police Sgt. Ernest Hernandez via Union County First Alert late Sunday morning.

First message, sent at 12:02 p.m. Sunday:

While it may seem like the worst of Hurricane Irene is over, Scotch Plains and most of Union County is experiencing widespread flooding and road closures due to downed trees and power lines.

Please stay off the road and let the Police, Fire, EMS and Power Company workers do their jobs safely.

For your safety, do not drive around barricades or under trees leaning on wires.

Second message, sent at 12:15 p.m. Sunday:
