Union County Woman Indicted On Fraudulent Automobile Insurance Theft Claims

A Union County woman was indicted on April 9 for allegedly filing a fraudulent automobile insurance theft claim on a vehicle she reportedly knew had been repossessed, not stolen, according to the Office of the Attorney General.

Linden resident Spring Wesley-Ofori, 35, allegedly submitted a false claim to Progressive Garden State Insurance Company, between Aug. 12 and Sept. 4, 2013, in attempts to steal the value of her 2007 Jeep Liberty, which was approximated at $12,000.  She was living in Newark at the time of the alleged crime.

The claim was denied and referred to the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, where it was then determined through investigation that Wesley-Ofori also allegedly made several false statements to further push the fraudulent claim through Progressive.
