Campaign Press Release: FW Dems Hold Kick-Off BBQ

About 150 local residents attended a barbecue hosted by Mayor Colleen Mahr on Monday.

U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone joined Fanwood's Democrats in formally launching their 2011 election campaigns at a barbecue hosted by Mayor Colleen Mahr at her North Avenue home on Monday.

Mahr and Councilman Russell Huegel are running for re-election Nov. 8.

Kevin Boris – defeated in his 2010 council bid by Democratic incumbents Katherine Mitchell (D) and Anthony Parenti (R), and subsequently appointed chairman of the Planning Board in January – is seeking to join Huegel on the Borough Council.

About 150 people attended the event, which was catered by on South Avenue. Organizers also collected food donations for local food pantries.

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg had been slated to be the guest of honor, but the Senate's last-minute vote on a spending agreement forced him to remain in Washington, D.C. Pallone, a Democrat representing the 6th Congressional District, which includes portions of Union, Somerset, Middlesex and Monmouth counties, attended in his place.
