Colleen Mahr Enters 10th Year As Fanwood Mayor

The 2013 reorganization meeting marked the start of Colleen Mahr's 10th year as mayor, it also welcomed two new councilmen, Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar.

 

The 2013 reorganization meeting for the Borough of Fanwood kicked off Mayor Colleen Mahr’s 10th year as the mayor of Fanwood, it also welcomed two new council members, Dan Levine and Jack Molenaar.

Both Levine and Molenaar were sworn in at the reorganization meeting held on Jan. 1 in the borough’s council chambers. Levine placed his hand on a bible held by his wife as he sworn in by Assemblywoman Linda Stender. While Molenaar was also sworn in by Stender while his wife held the bible.

Mahr noted that moving forward in 2013 she plans to continue being “fiscally conservative,” as posted on Fanwood’s website.

According the borough’s website, at the meeting Mahr informed residents that the Council only controls a small amount of a residents’ tax bill. She added that in 2012 the portion they control only rose 10 dollars for the year. 

On the Fanwood website it states that both Scotch Plains and Fanwood intend on starting up the radio station, AM 530 to make sure residents are provided with updated information, even without power.

“While we can cope with bad news, we can’t cope with no news,” Scotch Plains Mayor Kevin Glover said in a quote on thealternativepress.com.

In addition to a plan to form a joint radio station, Glover acknowledged how Fanwood could be a great resource in working together with the township of Scotch Plains.


At the Fanwood reorganization meeting, Mahr was confident that efforts to join the Fanwood Police Department with the Scotch Plains Police Department would start coming together in the spring, the borough’s website stated.

Mahr stated she looks forward to working with Scotch Plains and the township’s new mayor, Kevin Glover.
